A Mother Who Learned to Teach Her Daughters

Sunita Devi never went to school. Married at 17 and a mother of three daughters by her mid-twenties, she assumed education was simply not for people like her.

When AIM Pathshala opened its Majhagadh centre, Sunita enrolled her two elder daughters. She would drop them off and wait outside โ€” curious, watching through the window as they learned to read.

One day, our educator invited her in. 'Aap bhi seekh sakti hain,' she was told. You can learn too.

Sunita joined our adult literacy batch, which meets three mornings a week. Within six months, she could read Hindi fluently. Within a year, she was helping her daughters with their homework.

Today, she reads them a short story every evening before bed โ€” a ritual that has transformed her household's relationship with learning. Her youngest daughter, age 7, is already among the top students at the centre.

Stories like Sunita's remind us that education ripples across generations. When a mother learns, her children learn better. When a woman is empowered, a family is empowered.
